Quick answers to common questions about DDL-v1.

## General

**What does DDL-v1 stand for?**
Datacustodia Dataset License, Version 1.

**Where is the authoritative license text?**
In `licenses/License.txt` at the root of the source repository.
Everything else is plain-language guidance.

**Can I use a DDL-v1 dataset in my country?**
The license is intended to operate worldwide. Some local laws
grant mandatory exceptions (e.g. fair use, quotation rights);
those continue to apply (see Section 10 of the License).

## Use

**Can I train an AI model on a DDL-v1 dataset?**
Yes, for non-commercial purposes. See Section 16 of the License
for the specific rules on training, fine-tuning and model outputs.

**Can I use a DDL-v1 dataset at my for-profit company?**
Only with a separate commercial license from the Licensor. See
the [Commercial Licensing](commercial) page.

**Can I share a DDL-v1 dataset on my website or mirror?**
Yes. As a mirror operator you become a "Further Distributor" and
must follow the attribution rules (see Section 17 of the License).

## Attribution

**What is the minimum attribution I need to give?**
The Licensor's name, the dataset title, the `DDL-v1` version
label, and where practicable a source URI. Adaptations must be
marked as such.

**Can I include the attribution in a NOTICE file instead of a
README?**
Yes, as long as it travels with the redistribution and is at
least as prominent as the attribution for any comparable
third-party material.

## Compliance

**What happens if I breach the license?**
Your Licensed Rights terminate automatically. They may be
reinstated if you cure the breach within 30 days, or sooner if
the Licensor grants express reinstatement.

**Can I get a retroactive commercial license?**
Contact the Licensor. Retroactive licenses are not guaranteed,
but the Licensor may, in its sole discretion, agree to one.
